Starting College

This Saturday, I’ll be doing something I’ve worked many long years to do–moving into my dorm at UC Berkeley. Hallelujah! I’m finally moving out (about time), and I can’t wait to embark on the new journey that is college, all the while keeping up with my daily posting on this beloved blog of mine.

As I said on my About page, “I started this blog as I started college because I wanted to try something new and different to parallel the new and different journey I was embarking on into the mysterious world of early semi-adulthood.” Alas, the adventure part of this blog will finally start (though poetry will still be the majority of the writing on here).

I can’t wait to move into my dorm, which I just got pictures of today (from one of my roommates) and share the experience with you all! I’ve already been there for orientation, so I know what the campus is like. However, I was living in a dorm different from the one I was assigned to for the year, which is actually much prettier and more spacious (woo!), so I’m excited to see it in person. I already know one of my roommates since she’s a close friend who went to my high school, but the other one is a second-year. I haven’t met her yet, but she seems nice as far as I can tell from talking over social media.

I’ve packed two backpacks full of things so far… The only other stuff I need to bring is clothes and bedding, which is pretty easy to pack. Oh, and my laptop and printer. I can’t wait! I can’t believe how many times I’ve said I can’t wait. There are a ton of events in the first month of college, and I’m planning to attend at least 75% of them, so I’ll probably talk about those on here too.

Sorry if I bore you with my life over the course of this, uh, blog time(?), haha, but I guess you’ll have to deal with my college and life ramblings starting now! Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this part of my blog as well as the creative writing parts (I could always tone down the number of these types of posts or improve my storytelling if you guys hate it *sad face*).

And of course, if there’s anything you relate to, anything you have to say about my experiences, if they remind you of your experiences, if you have advice, or… whatever else is in your head, go ahead and comment! I’d love to hear about anything you have to say and talk with you!

P.S. Interestingly, the biggest problem so far is the fact that my mother doesn’t like the mini-fridge/microwave placement because of cancer and explosions or something.

Good luck on your college adventure! I can’t wait to read about your experiences. I’m starting my first year of university this October and I wish I was as excited about it as you are, haha. The whole living on my own thing scares the hell out of me!

It’d scare me except my college isn’t too far from home and I guess I’ve felt ready to move out for years now. And good luck to you too! I’m sure it’ll be a great experience and your fears will dissipate.
