Fireflight

Red hot flares of fear and I didn’t mean to and misunderstood tease our pale baby skin
Flickering madly, crazed flames dance disastrously, ominous in the darkness of our hearts

But it is the only light we have so what can we do but use it

It burns up our eyes, emptiness replacing the bright colorful orbs, sockets
Licks our salty skin, clings onto it, ashen skin, saggy with stagnancy, acceptance
Engulfs our being, our essence and importance, all that was crucial to our existence swallowed by its expanse
Its dance unfaltering, unfailing, unwavering, waving its red tendrils in our oxygen, mocking

We can’t help but use it, brightness in our lack

Enraging lightness for our dark, our inability, our I cants and wonts and have-tos
Pink timid flares of hate and I didn’t mean to and misunderstood brush softly against our pale baby skin, burnt
